Yolo County - Construction on both directions of Interstate 5 (I-5) will require partial nightly closures beginning Monday, September 21, from 7:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. The closure is expected to cause nighttime delays.
Crews will remove and replace the pavement along both directions of I-5 at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge that crosses the Sacramento River, north of the Sacramento International Airport (SMF).
This construction work will require the bridge to be reduced to one lane during the project and is needed for workers’ and motorists’ safety.
Nighttime work will begin on northbound I-5 and should not delay the public from making scheduled departure flights from SMF. The contractor will then switch to southbound I-5, which could impact motorists heading from the Woodland area trying to make departures from SMF.
SCHEDULE:
- 7:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday (ending at 4:30 a.m. Friday)
- 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. Friday and Saturday (ending at 7 a.m. Sunday)
- 7:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Sunday (ending at 4:30 a.m. Monday)
Caltrans reminds drivers to expect delays, stay alert when traveling through work zones, and pay close attention to advance warning signs. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and allow for extra travel time.
The work zone speed limit will be reduced to 55 mph, and the California Highway Patrol will be present for traffic enforcement. Work is scheduled as listed, but is subject to change due to weather, availability of equipment and/or materials, or other construction-related issues.
Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11 Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert” and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews performing these improvements.
