Interstate 80 Construction Update for Sierra Corridor

Placer/Nevada Counties – Caltrans is reminding motorists of various lane and ramp closures in multiple locations along Interstate 80 (I-80) as several projects continue in Placer and Nevada counties. 
 
Motorists will experience delays with each project. If traveling across the entire corridor, the cumulative delay may reach up to two hours depending on traffic volumes. Caltrans encourages motorists to factor in additional travel times along the I-80 Sierra corridor and check QuickMap for real-time roadway information.
 
Here is the breakdown for next week in geographical order:
 
Eastbound I-80
  • Blue Canyon Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Applegate and Weimar, various lane and ramp closures are scheduled from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday, September 13 through Thursday, September 17. Lane closures are scheduled to end for the week at 6 a.m. Friday, September 18.
  • Monte Vista Pavement Rehabilitation Project
    • Between Monte Vista/Dutch Flat and Drum Forebay, various lane closures are scheduled from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, September 15 through Thursday, September 17 and from 6 a.m. to noon Friday, September 18.
    • Crystal Springs on- and off-ramps are closed until further notice. Motorists will detour eastbound to Baxter and return westbound on I-80 to Crystal Springs.
    • Drum Forebay on- and off-ramps are closed until further notice. Motorists will detour eastbound to the next available exit and return westbound on I-80 to Drum Forebay.

  • Blue Canyon Pavement Rehabilitation Project
    • Between the Whitmore Maintenance Station and Emigrant Gap, various lane closures are scheduled from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday, September 13 through Thursday, September 17. Work is also scheduled from 10 p.m. Friday, September 18 to 7 a.m. Saturday, September 19.
    • Blue Canyon Road, one-way traffic control is scheduled from 9 p.m. Sunday, September 13 to noon Friday, September 18.
  • Drum Forebay Drainage Restoration Project near Emigrant Gap, various ramp closures are scheduled from 7 p.m. Thursday, September 17 to 4 a.m. Friday, September 18.
  • Yuba Pass Separation Overhead Bridge Project eastbound I-80 off-ramp to State Route 20 (SR 20) closure has been extended through 6 a.m. Sunday, September 20. Motorists will detour along eastbound I-80 to Eagle Lakes Road, then head back westbound on I-80 and take the off-ramp to westbound SR 20.
  • Soda Springs Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Troy and Soda Springs, various lane and ramp closures are scheduled from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, September 14 through Wednesday, September 16.
Westbound I-80
  • Emergency Culvert/Rockfall Project between Floriston and Hinton Road, various lane closures are scheduled from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, September 14 through Thursday, September 17.
  • Soda Springs Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Soda Springs and Troy, various lane and ramp closures are scheduled from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, September 14 and Tuesday, September 15.
  • Yuba Pass Separation Overhead Bridge Project westbound I-80 off-ramp at Yuba Gap is closed until further notice due to the crossover in place. Motorists will detour westbound to the Emigrant Gap exit and return eastbound on I-80 to Yuba Gap.
  • Drum Forebay Drainage Restoration Project near Emigrant Gap, various ramp closures are scheduled from 7 p.m. Thursday, September 17 to 4 a.m. Friday, September 18.
  • Blue Canyon Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Emigrant Gap and the Whitmore Maintenance Station, various lane closures are scheduled from 9 p.m. Sunday, September 13 to 6 a.m. Monday, September 14 and from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, September 14 through Thursday, September 17. Lane closures are scheduled to end for the week at 6 a.m. Friday, September 18.

  • I-80 Middle-Mile Broadband Network (MMBN) Project between Secret Town and Cape Horn, various lane and ramp closures are scheduled from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday, September 14 through Friday, September 18. Lane closures are scheduled to end for the week at 5 a.m. Saturday, September 19.
  • Blue Canyon Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Weimar and Applegate, various lane and ramp closures are scheduled from 9 p.m. Sunday, September 13 to 6 a.m. Monday, September 14 and from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, September 14 through Friday, September 18. Lane closures are scheduled to end for the week at 7 a.m. Saturday, September 19.
  • I-80 MMBN Project between Applegate and Dry Creek Road, various lane closures are scheduled from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday, September 14 through Friday, September 18. Lane closures are scheduled to end for the week at 5 a.m. Saturday, September 19.

The extended lane closures will help minimize the duration of construction and improve worker safety. The schedule is subject to change or be delayed due to weather, availability of materials or other unexpected events.

Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11 Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert” and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews performing these improvements.
