Placer/Nevada Counties - Caltrans is reminding motorists of various lane closures in multiple locations along State Route 49 (SR 49) and State Route 20 (SR 20) as several projects continue in Placer and Nevada counties.

No lane closures are scheduled over the Labor Day holiday weekend, but construction will resume Tuesday, September 8. Here is the breakdown for next week:

SR 49 Projects:
  • Sidewalk Gap Closure Project southbound between Luther Road and Elm/Fulwiler Avenue, various lane closures are scheduled from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. Tuesday, September 8 through Thursday, September 10. Lane closures are scheduled to end for the week at 7 a.m. Friday, September 11.
  • Corridor Improvement Project between McKnight Way and La Barr Meadows/Allison Ranch Road, one-way traffic control is scheduled from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday, September 8 through Thursday, September 10. Lane closures are scheduled to end for the week at 6 a.m. Friday, September 11.
A large yellow bulldozer pushes and levels reddish-brown soil in a wide excavation area along a roadway. Construction vehicles and a worker in an orange vest stand nearby. A truck carrying long logs drives past on the adjacent paved road. The scene is surrounded by tall pine trees under a partly cloudy sky. A group of construction workers wearing safety gear assemble tall wooden formwork for a concrete structure in a forested area. The formwork creates a narrow, rectangular passage with red ladders positioned on both sides. Rebar is arranged across the top section, and scattered lumber and tools lie on the ground. Sunlight filters through the surrounding pine trees in the background.

SR 20 Projects:
  • Pavement Rehabilitation Project
    • Between Omega Road and Last Chance Mine Road, various one-way traffic controls are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, September 9.
    • Between Zeibright Road and Lake Spaulding Road, various one-way traffic controls are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, September 9 and Thursday, September 10. Work is also scheduled from 7 a.m. to noon Friday, September 11.
  • Yuba Pass Separation Overhead Bridge Project
    • Eastbound SR 20 is scheduled to be closed between the Omega Scenic Overlook and the junction with Interstate 80 (I-80) from 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 8 through 6 a.m. Sunday, September 13. Motorists looking to connect to I-80 will detour southbound on SR 49 to connect with I-80 in Auburn or eastbound on State Route 174 to connect with I-80 in Colfax. Large trucks are directed to only use SR 49.
    • The SR 20 on-ramp to westbound I-80 remains closed until further notice due to bridge construction activities.

Several steel beams and construction materials are spread around the site. A completed elevated roadway runs above the work zone, with a white pickup truck driving across it. Heavy equipment, including cranes and lifts, is positioned near the partially built bridge.

The extended lane closures will help minimize the duration of the work and improve worker safety. The schedule is subject to change or be delayed due to weather, availability of materials or other unexpected events.

Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11 Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert” and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews performing these improvements.
