Sacramento County - Caltrans is alerting motorists to upcoming repairs on northbound Interstate 5 (I-5) south of the city of Elk Grove as part of a $1.5 million emergency project to repair damaged pavement.
Beginning Thursday, May 21 through Thursday, June 30, crews are scheduled to begin nightly roadwork on 19 locations between the hours of 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Friday.
Work is expected to occur nightly with traffic control. Motorists are encouraged to plan for additional travel time to compensate for traffic delays. Northbound I-5 will be reduced to one lane through the work zone.
The emergency repair work will include saw cutting, roadway excavation, paving, and restriping to restore the highway. Caltrans reminds motorists that the maximum speed has been lowered to 55 miles per hour in the construction zone.
Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11 counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert” and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews performing these improvements.
