Placer/Nevada Counties – Caltrans is reminding motorists of various lane closures in multiple locations along State Route 49 (SR 49) and State Route 20 (SR 20) as several projects continue in Placer and Nevada counties.

Here is the breakdown for next week:

SR 20 Projects:
  • Pavement Rehabilitation Project, between Rock Creek Road and Washington Road, various locations with one-way traffic control are scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, May 18 through Thursday, May 21.

A two‑lane rural road running through a forested area is partially dug up for construction work. Orange traffic cones line both sides of the work zone, and a long trench filled with fresh concrete or fill material runs along the right side of the construction area. Metal plates cover parts of the ground. Several vehicles, including a white truck and a dark car, travel through the single open lane. Tall pine trees border both sides of the road under a clear blue sky. Road construction crews work along a forested two‑lane highway under a clear blue sky. Workers in high‑visibility safety gear stand near a trench filled with fresh concrete while a cement mixer truck pours material into the excavation. An excavator operates farther up the work zone, and construction cones line the area. Surveying equipment, including a yellow laser level on a tripod and a carrying case, is set up near the foreground. Tall pine trees surround the site.

  • Yuba Pass Separation Overhead Bridge Project
    • Eastbound SR 20 is scheduled to be closed between the Omega Scenic Overlook and the junction with Interstate 80 (I-80) from 7 p.m. Sunday, May 17 through 9 a.m. Friday, May 22. Motorists looking to connect to I-80 will detour southbound on SR 49 to connect with I-80 in Auburn or southbound on State Route 174 to connect with I-80 in Colfax. Large trucks are directed to only use SR 49.
    • SR 20 on-ramp to westbound I-80 is closed until further notice due to bridge construction.
SR 49 Projects:
  • Sidewalk Gap Closure Project, southbound between Luther Road and Elm/Fulweiler Avenue, various lane closures are scheduled from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday, May 17 through Thursday, May 21. Work is scheduled to end for the week at 7 a.m. Friday, May 22.
  • Corridor Improvement Project, between McKnight Way and La Barr Meadows/Allison Ranch Road, one-way traffic control is scheduled from 8 p.m. Sunday, May 17 to 6 a.m. Monday, May 18 and from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, May 18 through Thursday, May 21. One-way traffic control will end for the week at 6 a.m. Friday, May 22.

A construction worker wearing a reflective safety vest and hard hat stands inside a deep, narrow trench supported by large yellow shoring walls. Metal cross‑braces span the trench overhead, and a long cylindrical steel pipe or casing lies centered on the gravel-covered trench floor. Tools, cables, and equipment are scattered around the work area, and sunlight illuminates parts of the yellow shoring walls and the worker below. A construction site with reddish dirt and an excavated trench supported by large yellow shoring panels. Orange safety fencing surrounds the area, and steel beams and equipment are positioned inside the excavation. Dense green trees and vegetation fill the background under a clear blue sky.

The extended lane closures will help to minimize the duration of the work and improve workers’ safety. Motorists may experience delays between 15 to 20 minutes, depending on traffic volumes. The schedule is subject to change or be delayed due to weather, availability of materials or other unexpected events.

Caltrans District 3 maintains 4,385 lane miles across 11 Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Drivers are reminded to “Be Work Zone Alert” and slow in construction zones for safety.

Construction updates are posted on X @CaltransDist3 and Facebook CaltransDistrict3. Real-time traffic is available via Caltrans QuickMap or the QuickMap app on the App Store and Google Play.
