Marysville – Caltrans is alerting motorists about the next round of winter weather expected to impact travel across the Sierra Nevada next week, following a dry pattern throughout January.

The National Weather Service (NWS) forecast indicates periods of rain showers Sunday, February 8 through Thursday, February 12, with the best chances for widespread precipitation over the northern Sacramento Valley, foothills, and mountains. Exact timing and amounts are uncertain.

Long-range forecasts also suggest another round of wet weather the following week. Motorists are encouraged to take advantage of the current quiet weather, check winter weather gear, and ensure vehicle emergency kits are stocked and handy.

Motorists in the valley should prepare for wet weather, longer travel times, and possible delays. Vehicles should have functioning headlights and windshield wipers, and avoid driving through flooded roads.

For those traveling through the Sierra Nevada, expect chain controls, longer travel times, and possible delays. Ensure vehicles have a full tank of gas or full charge, chains, and emergency supplies such as snacks, water, a blanket, and a flashlight.

For updates, check the NWS forecast and Caltrans QuickMap before traveling. The QuickMap app is available on the App Store and Google Play. Road information is also available on Caltrans’ website or by calling 1-800-427-ROAD (7623).
