Lane and Ramp Closure Scheduled Along Interstate 80 Near Dutch Flat in Placer County

PLACER COUNTY – Caltrans is alerting motorists about a scheduled lane and ramp closure along Interstate 80 (I-80) in Placer County next week. This is part of the $157.5 million Monte Vista Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Dutch Flat/Monte Vista and Drum Forebay for pavement work.

Eastbound I-80 traffic will shift into one lane between Dutch Flat/Monte Vista and Alta from 6 a.m. Monday, February 2 through 11 a.m. Friday, February 6. Traffic control will be maintained around the clock. Delays are estimated at 15–20 minutes or longer depending on traffic volumes.

The Dutch Flat/Monte Vista on-ramp to eastbound I-80 is scheduled to be closed from 6 a.m. Wednesday, February 4 through 11 a.m. Friday, February 6. Motorists heading eastbound toward Truckee will need to detour westbound to the next exit at Gold Run and take the on-ramp to return to eastbound I-80.

Crews are grinding and paving a 3,000-foot section of temporary asphalt used for traffic cross-overs last season. Extended lane closures help minimize the duration of work and improve worker safety. The speed limit in the construction zone is reduced to 55 mph, and the California Highway Patrol will be present for traffic enforcement.

DeSilva Gates Construction of Dublin is the prime contractor. The project is expected to be completed by summer 2028. Work includes preserving pavement in fair and poor condition, upgrading median barriers, rehabilitating drainage systems, installing traffic management system elements, and improving freight mobility with an eastbound truck-climbing lane.

Caltrans District 3 maintains 4,385 lane miles across 11 Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Drivers are reminded to “Be Work Zone Alert” and slow in construction zones for safety.
