56-Hour Closure Scheduled for 16th Street On-Ramp to Eastbound Highway 50 in Downtown Sacramento

Sacramento - Work on the $511.1 million U.S. Highway 50 (US 50) Multimodal Corridor Enhancement “Fix50” Project continues with a 56-hour closure at the 16th Street on-ramp to eastbound US 50 scheduled for this weekend.

Crews will do joint seal installation that requires demo work to take place. Once the joint seal assembly is poured out, tinned, and cured, clean-up of area will occur until testing allows the area to be approved for re-opening the ramp to traffic.

Closure Schedule:
9 p.m. Friday, January 9 through 5 a.m. Monday, January 12, 2026

  • Continue east on X Street
  • Take the X Street on-ramp to eastbound US 50

Caltrans reminds drivers to expect delays, stay alert when traveling through work zones and pay close attention to advance signage posted before the traffic split. Motorists are also encouraged to plan for and allow extra travel time.

The ongoing work is part of a project to rehabilitate pavement and add 14 miles of high-occupancy lanes from the US 50/Interstate 5 interchange to the US 50/Watt Avenue interchange.

The work zone speed limit has been reduced to 55 mph and the California Highway Patrol will be present for traffic enforcement. For more information visit the U.S. Highway 50 Multimodal Corridor Enhancement and Rehabilitation Project on the Caltrans District 3 website.

Work is scheduled to begin as listed but subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials, or other construction-related issues.
