Rio Vista - Caltrans is advising motorists of additional weekend work on the ongoing $27.2 million State Route 12 (SR 12) Rio Vista Bridge (Helen Madere Memorial Bridge) Rehabilitation Project.
Construction is needed to repair the damage from a vehicle collision with the bridge’s East Portal. A weekend full closure is scheduled for SR 12 at the Rio Vista Bridge from 9 p.m. Friday, November 7 through 4 a.m. Monday, November 10 to complete the necessary repairs.
Motorists should allow for extra travel time to reach their destinations, especially for appointments and work schedules, and expect a lengthy detour.
Due to the limited width of the bridge to allow for heavy equipment access, for the safety of the contractor and Caltrans workers, and for crews to be able to promptly complete this repair project, it will require two 55-hour closures.
The second closure is tentatively scheduled for the weekend of November 14 through November 17.
Motorists are encouraged to visit www.bit.ly/CTDeltaRegion for additional updates and any changes to construction information.
Schedule:
- 9 p.m. Friday, November 7 through 4 a.m. Monday November 10
- 9 p.m. Friday, November 14 through 4 a.m. Monday, November 17
Detour:
- To Rio Vista, take southbound State Route (SR) 160, to westbound State Route 4, to northbound Interstate 680 (I-680) to eastbound State 12.
- For Sacramento County, take westbound SR 12, to southbound I-680 to eastbound SR 4, to northbound SR 160.
The schedule is subject to change due to weather conditions, equipment and/or material availability, or other unexpected events. Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11 Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert” and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews performing these improvements.
