Sacramento – Construction on the $511.1 million U.S. Highway 50 (US 50) Multimodal Corridor Enhancement “Fix50” Project continues with a new eastbound US 50 traffic alignment scheduled to go into effect by 5 a.m. Monday, August 11.
The traffic switch begins after the 15th Street off-ramp and will continue through 48th Street. The traffic switch is needed to perform concrete work between lanes #4 and #5. This new alignment will be in place until this fall.
Once in effect the new configuration (see map below) will be:
- Lanes #1 and #2 will remain to the left of the median barrier and serve as bypass lanes. These lanes will not have access to the Stockton Boulevard/34th Street off-ramp (Exit 7) nor the eastbound US 50 connectors to northbound State Route 51 (SR 51)/Business 80 or southbound State Route 99 (SR 99).
- Lanes #3 and #4 will shift to the right of the median barrier, providing access to Stockton Boulevard/34th Street off-ramp (Exit 7) and UC Davis Medical Center.
- Lanes #5 and #6 will be on the far-right side of eastbound US 50 and provide access to the northbound SR 51/Business 80 and southbound SR 99 connectors. Motorists looking to take these connectors will need to stay in lanes #5 and #6.
Caltrans reminds drivers to expect delays, stay alert when traveling through work zones and pay close attention to advance signage posted before the traffic split. Motorists are also encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra travel time.
The ongoing work is part of a project to rehabilitate pavement and add 14 lane miles of high-occupancy lanes from the US 50/I-5 interchange to the US 50/Watt Avenue interchange.
The work zone speed limit has been reduced to 55 mph and the California Highway Patrol will be present for traffic enforcement. For more information visit the U.S. Highway 50 Multimodal Corridor Enhancement and Rehabilitation Project on the Caltrans District 3 website.
Work is scheduled to begin as listed but subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/ or materials, and construction-related issues.
