SUTTER COUNTY – Caltrans and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) are alerting motorists of an upcoming 56-hour traffic shift and lane reduction on State Route 99 (SR 99) near Howsley Road as part of a levee improvement project.

Traffic Impacts:
When: Friday, August 15 at 8 p.m. through Monday, August 18 at 4 a.m.
Where: SR 99 near Howsley Road

Traffic will remain open in both directions through a temporary traffic shift onto the northbound side of the highway. This configuration will reduce the highway to one lane in each direction and allow the contractor, Odin Construction, to safely complete critical levee work while maintaining traffic flow.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) and onsite crews will manage the lane shift, with portable message signs in place to alert drivers in advance. While no detour is required, motorists should expect delays due to the lane shift and lane reduction and are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra travel time.

Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11 Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert” and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews performing these improvements.
