Rio Vista - Caltrans is advising motorists of additional nightly work next week on the ongoing $27.2 million State Route 12 (SR 12) Rio Vista Bridge (Helen Madere Memorial Bridge) Rehabilitation Project, Nighttime work with one-way traffic control is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Monday, July 21 (see schedule) but is not a full closure of the bridge. Motorists should allow for extra travel time to reach their destinations, especially for appointments and work schedules.

Due to the limited width of the bridge, this project has required multiple nightly closures to allow for heavy equipment access and for the safety of the contractor and Caltrans workers.

The nightly one-way traffic control will help avoid long wait times at peak commute hours. The work is part of intermittent lane closures to remove scaffolding that was used for the recent deck paving and to complete additional punch-list items.

The project is expected to be completed by late spring 2026.

Schedule:

  • Nightly construction work (one-way traffic control) from Monday, July 21 to Friday, July 25, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Friday August 1, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Saturday, August 2

The schedule is subject to change due to weather conditions, equipment and/or material availability, or other unexpected events. Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11 Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert” and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews performing these improvements.
The department will issue construction updates on X @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict3. For real-time traffic, click on Caltrans’ QuickMap or download the QuickMap app from the App Store or Google Play.
