PLACER COUNTY – Caltrans is advising motorists of various lane closures due to the broadband installation project that is continuing for the 2025 season on State Route 28 (SR 28) along the north shore of Lake Tahoe next week.

The broadband project is part of a larger statewide effort by the California Department of Technology to bring high-speed internet into rural communities. The contractor for this project is Teichert Construction.

Utility work is scheduled at the following locations and times:

  • Along eastbound SR 28 Monday, June 16 through Thursday, June 19 from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. between Laurel Drive in Tahoe Vista and the State Route 267 junction in Kings Beach. Work also is scheduled Friday, June 20 from 6 a.m. until noon.
  • Along both directions of SR 28 Monday, June 16 through Thursday, June 19 from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. between Tahoe State Park and Estates Drive. Work also is scheduled Friday, June 20 from 6 a.m. until noon.
Please note that crews will be shifting around to various sections throughout the week with one-way traffic control in effect when necessary.

Drainage work in preparation for the upcoming SR 28 Pavement Rehabilitation Project is scheduled along both directions of SR 28 Sunday, June 15 through Friday, June 20 from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. between Lake Forest Road (West) and Old County Road.

In addition, the Fanny Bridge at Tahoe City is scheduled for a complete overnight closure Tuesday, June 17 and Wednesday, June 18 from 7 p.m. until 9 a.m. The northbound direction of the bridge will be closed Monday, June 16 and Thursday, June 19 from 7 p.m. until 9 a.m. Southbound traffic will remain open across the bridge. During these closures, traffic will be detoured via Lake Boulevard to access State Routes 89 and 28. These closures are to assist with the installation of the dam diversion in preparation for the complete replacement of Fanny Bridge starting in August.
