CHICO - Caltrans is alerting motorists of upcoming emergency bridge repair work on the eastbound 20th Street overcrossing at State Route 99 (SR 99) in Chico. Work is scheduled to begin Tuesday night, April 29, following damage from a recent high-load impact.
Motorists should be aware of the following traffic impacts:
- Tuesday night, April 29: The eastbound East 20th Street overcrossing will be closed overnight. Southbound traffic on SR 99 will not be affected.
- Tuesday night, April 29: Northbound SR 99 will be closed at the East 20th Street overcrossing. Northbound traffic will be diverted off the highway via the East 20th Street offramp and re-enter the highway using the onramp (See Detour Map)
- Wednesday, April 30: Eastbound East 20th Street will remain reduced to one lane for a few weeks. Northbound SR 99 will reopen Wednesday morning.
- Additional intermittent lane closures and traffic control with full closures of SR 99 are expected throughout the repair period and will be posted as the work is scheduled.
Drivers are advised to plan for delays, follow signage, and use alternate routes when possible. Caltrans will issue further updates as the work progresses. These repairs are necessary to ensure the continued safety of the traveling public.
Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11 Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert” and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews performing these improvements.
