Sacramento - Work on the U.S. Highway 50 (US 50) Multimodal Corridor Enhancement “Fix50” Project continues with a traffic shift on eastbound U.S. Highway 50 (US 50) that is scheduled to be in effect Tuesday, April 22 at 5 a.m.
Crews began the reconfiguration work for the new alignment Monday. The traffic shift is required for pavement rehabilitation work on the far left lanes of eastbound US 50. The traffic split will start after the Stockton Boulevard on-ramp to eastbound US 50 and will end after the Howe Avenue/Power Inn Road on-ramp.
Caltrans reminds drivers to stay alert in work zones and pay attention to the advance signs posted before the traffic split. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra travel time, as delays are expected.
Drivers Heading Eastbound US 50 to Watt Avenue, or subsequent exits use:
- The two bypass left lanes
Drivers taking the following exits must stay on the outside two right lanes before the traffic split:
- Exit 8A to 59th Street off-ramp.
- Exit 8B to 65th Street off-ramp.
- Exit 9 to State Route 16 / Howe Avenue / Power Inn Road
Updated Schedule:
- Reconfiguration work for new alignment began Monday, April 14 at 5 a.m.
- New traffic shift in place by April 22 at 5 a.m. (tentative)
- The updated traffic configuration is scheduled to stay in place until this summer.
The ongoing work is part of a $529 million project to rehabilitate pavement and add 14 lane miles of high-occupancy lanes from the US 50/I-5 interchange to the US 50/Watt Avenue interchange.
Motorists traveling through the work zone should expect lane restrictions and be aware of commercial work vehicles traveling in and out of the area. The work zone speed limit has been reduced to 55 mph and the California Highway Patrol will be present for traffic enforcement. For more information visit the U.S. Highway 50 Multimodal Corridor Enhancement and Rehabilitation Project on the Caltrans District 3 website.
