Safe Navigation Passage Restored on Butte City Bridge

 

BUTTE & GLENN COUNTIES — Caltrans is alerting boaters that the Butte City Bridge now has a clear navigation channel beneath Segment #3 of the new bridge, restoring safe passage for recreational users along the Sacramento River.

Debris removal operations began Wednesday and will continue over the coming days. The public can now safely pass under the bridge through the cleared navigation opening. A barge with a crane remains in place on the river as crews continue removing debris. Please use caution when traveling through or near the work zone.

This $114 million bridge replacement project began in 2022. Full construction of the new bridge is expected to be completed by early June, with full project completion, including demolition of the old bridge, anticipated in 2026. The project will improve safety and extend the lifespan of the bridge while enhancing roadway conditions along the corridor. In addition to replacing the aging structure, the project includes upgrades to drainage systems, improved signage and striping, and accessibility enhancements to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.
