COLUSA COUNTY – Caltrans District 3, in coordination with Colusa County officials, recently completed a series of safety improvements at the intersection of 2nd Street and State Route 45 (SR-45) in response to concerns from Grimes residents about high vehicle speeds  through town.

County Supervisor Daurice Smith and Colusa County Public Works Director Michael Azevedo met with Caltrans representatives to discuss community feedback regarding speeding through Grimes. Based on these discussions and an assessment by the Caltrans Office of Traffic Safety, a plan was developed to enhance safety in the area.

“Caltrans is dedicated to working with our local partners to enhance safety on our state highways,” said Caltrans District 3 Director Sergio Aceves. “The improvements in Grimes reflect our commitment to addressing community concerns and implementing effective measures to slow traffic and protect all road users. We appreciate the collaboration with Colusa County and look forward to continuing efforts that prioritize safety for residents and travelers alike .”
The improvements included the installation of a stop sign at the SR-45/2nd Street intersection to regulate traffic flow and reduce speeds. Additionally, stop-ahead pavement markings were added to alert drivers in advance of the new stop sign, and advance warning rumble strips were installed to alert drivers to slow down before reaching the intersection.

Colusa officials were encouraged to hear that residents have responded positively to these changes. The new safety features were installed to slow traffic and improve safety for pedestrians and bicyclists. Caltrans worked closely with Colusa County Public Works to ensure that these enhancements met the community’s needs while aligning with the department’s traffic safety goals.
