WHEATLAND — Caltrans is notifying motorists of the activation of a new traffic signal at the intersection of State Route 65 (SR-65) and McDevitt Road in Wheatland. The signal will be turned on Thursday, November 21 as part of a $10.3 million rehabilitation project to improve safety and traffic flow in the area. 
 
Signal programming and setup will begin in the morning, with the signal scheduled to be fully operational by midday.
 
This project will enhance safety and connectivity in Wheatland. Key improvements include pavement rehabilitation, the addition of bike lanes and a Class I multi-use path for enhanced bicycle and pedestrian mobility, rehabilitation of drainage systems, and upgraded facilities to meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards. It also includes modifications to driveways and enhanced crosswalk visibility as part of complete streets elements.
 
Construction began June 2024, with expected completion by late summer 2025.

Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11 Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert” and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews performing these improvements.
