FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ROSEVILLE – Caltrans is alerting motorists about an upcoming 55-hour closure of the Douglas Boulevard slip on-ramp to westbound Interstate 80 (I-80) as part of the $46.1 million Auxiliary Lane and Fifth Lane Project.

The on-ramp is scheduled to be closed from 9 p.m. Friday, October 4 to 5 a.m. Monday, October 7. Motorists looking to enter the highway from Douglas Boulevard will detour to Sunrise Avenue, turn right onto Cirby Way and make a left onto Riverside Avenue to access the slip on-ramp to westbound I-80.

Crews will be excavating the roadway, installing new lighting and repaving the ramp to accommodate the new fifth lane during closure. The schedule is subject to change or be delayed due to weather, availability of materials or other unexpected events.

A similar closure is scheduled for the loop on-ramp to westbound I-80 from 9 p.m. Friday, October 11 to 5 a.m. Monday, October 14. Motorists will detour to North Sunrise Avenue, turn left onto Atlantic Street, followed by another left to access the slip on-ramp to westbound I-80.

Ghilotti Construction Company, Inc. of Santa Rosa is the prime contractor. Crews recently opened the new auxiliary lane along eastbound I-80 between State Route 65 and Rocklin Road, which now includes a two-lane off-ramp. The entire project is expected to be completed by spring 2025. A fifth lane is being constructed on westbound I-80 between Douglas Boulevard and Riverside Avenue and include reconfiguring the Douglas off-ramp from two lanes to one lane.

The project includes $11.5 million in funding from Senate Bill 1 (SB 1), the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017. SB 1 provides $5 billion in transportation funding annually, shared equally between state and local agencies. Road projects progress through construction phases more quickly based on the availability of SB 1 funds, including projects partially funded by SB 1.
