Interstate 80 Construction Update for Sierra Corridor

PLACER/NEVADA/SIERRA COUNTIES – Caltrans is reminding motorists of various lane and ramp closures in multiple locations along Interstate 80 (I-80) as several projects and emergency repairs continue in Placer, Nevada and Sierra counties. 
 
Emergency repair work is starting to wrap up for the season, but construction continues on major projects and motorists still may experience delays up to a maximum of two hours and are encouraged to factor in additional travel times along the I-80 Sierra corridor. Here is the breakdown for next week:
 
Eastbound I-80
  • Placer/Nevada bridge preservation project near Magra, lane closures will be in place from 9 p.m. Sunday, September 22 to 9 a.m. Monday, September 23. Work is also scheduled from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following day Monday, September 23 through Thursday, September 26; and from 10 p.m. Friday, September 27 to 8 a.m. Saturday, September 28.
  • Monte Vista Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Monte Vista and Drum Forebay, lane and ramp closures will be in place around the clock beginning at 6 a.m. Monday, September 23 through 11 a.m. Friday, September 27. Work is also scheduled from 7 p.m. Friday, September 27 to 11 a.m. Saturday, September 28.
  • Placer/Nevada bridge preservation project near Alta, lane closures will be in place from 9 p.m. Sunday, September 22 to 7 a.m. Monday, September 23. Work is also scheduled from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day Monday, September 23 through Thursday, September 26; and from 9 p.m. Friday, September 27 to 7 a.m. Saturday, September 28.
  • Yuba Pass Separation Overhead Bridge Project between Yuba Gap and the junction with State Route 20 (SR-20), lane closures will be in place from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, September 23 through Thursday, September 26. Work is also scheduled from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday, September 27.
  • Placer/Nevada bridge preservation project near Crystal Lake, lane closures will be in place from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day Monday, September 23 through Thursday, September 26. Work is scheduled to end at 6 a.m. Friday, September 27.
  • Emergency Repairs Location 3 between Big Bend and Rainbow, lane and ramp closures will be in place from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, September 23 through Thursday, September 26.
  • Soda Springs Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Troy and Soda Springs, lane closures will be in place around the clock beginning at 8 p.m. Saturday, September 21 through 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 24. Work is also scheduled 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 25, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, September 26, 6 a.m. to noon Friday, September 27 and 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, September 28.
  • Emergency Repairs Location 4 between Soda Springs and the Donner Summit Rest Area, lane and ramp closures will be in place around the clock beginning at 7 p.m. Sunday, September 22 through noon Thursday, September 26.

Westbound I-80

  • Westbound I-80 restriping project between the CHP Truck Scales and State Route 267, lane closures will be in place from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, September 23 through Thursday, September 26.
  • Emergency Repairs Location 4 between Donner Lake Interchange and Castle Peak, lane and ramp closures will be in place around the clock beginning at 6 a.m. Monday, September 23 through noon Sunday, September 29.
  • Soda Springs Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Soda Springs and Troy, lane closures will be in place from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 24 through Friday, September 27.
  • Emergency Repairs Location 3 between Troy and Rainbow, lane closures will be in place from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, September 26.
  • Placer/Nevada bridge preservation project near Crystal Lake, lane closures will be in place from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following day Monday, September 23 through Thursday, September 26. Work is scheduled to end at 7 a.m. Friday, September 27.

  • Emergency Repairs Location 2 between Emigrant Gap and Nyack, lane closures will be in place from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, September 25 and Thursday, September 26.
  • Placer/Nevada bridge preservation project near Blue Canyon, lane closures will be in place from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following day Monday, September 23 through Thursday, September 26. Work is scheduled to end at 7 a.m. Friday, September 27.
  • Emergency Repairs Location 2 between Blue Canyon and Drum Forebay, lane closures will be in place around the clock beginning at 5 a.m. Tuesday, September 24 through noon Friday, September 27.
  • Monte Vista Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Drum Forebay and Monte Vista, lane and ramp closures will be in place around the clock from 6 a.m. Monday, September 23 through 7 p.m. Saturday, September 28.
  • Placer/Nevada bridge preservation project
    • Near Alta, lane closures will be in place from 9 p.m. Sunday, September 22 to 8 a.m. Monday, September 23. Work is also scheduled from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following day Monday, September 23 through Wednesday, September 25, from 9 p.m. Thursday, September 26 to 8 a.m. Friday, September 27 and from 9 p.m. Friday, September 27 to 7 a.m. Saturday, September 28.
    • Near Magra, lane closures will be in place from 9 p.m. Sunday, September 22 to 9 a.m. Monday, September 23. Work is also scheduled from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following day Monday, September 23 through Thursday, September 26, and from 8 p.m. Friday, September 27 to 8 a.m. Saturday, September 28.

The extended lane closures will help to minimize the duration of the work and improve workers’ safety. For more information on each project visit Caltrans District 3 Current Projects. The schedule is subject to change or be delayed due to weather, availability of materials or other unexpected events.

Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11 Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert” and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews performing these improvements.
