FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PLACER COUNTY – Caltrans is alerting motorists about an upcoming extended closure of the Alta off-ramp on westbound Interstate 80 (I-80) as part of the $146.8 million Monte Vista Pavement Rehabilitation Project.

The off-ramp is scheduled to be closed for one month from 7 a.m. Tuesday, September 17 to 7 a.m. Thursday, October 17. Motorists looking to exit will detour westbound on I-80 to the Dutch Flat/Monte Vista exit. At the stop sign, make a left and then take another left onto the I-80 eastbound on-ramp, where they will be able to head back to the Alta exit.

Crews will be performing concrete work and reconstructing the off-ramp to accommodate an eastbound truck climbing lane. The schedule is subject to change or be delayed due to weather, availability of materials or other unexpected events.

DeSilva Gates Construction of Dublin is the prime contractor for the project, which is expected to be completed by summer 2028. The project will preserve the pavement by addressing areas in fair and poor condition and upgrade the median concrete barrier. The project will also rehabilitate existing drainage systems, install traffic management system elements and improve freight mobility by adding the eastbound truck climbing lane.

Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11 Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert” and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews performing these improvements.

The department will issue construction updates on X @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict3. For real-time traffic, click on Caltrans’ QuickMap or download the QuickMap app from the App Store or Google Play.
