Upcoming 55-Hour Closures on State Route 32 in Butte County

Full Closure from Meridian Road to Hamilton Nord Cana Highway

BUTTE COUNTY – Caltrans is alerting motorists of two upcoming scheduled 55-hour closures on State Route 32 (SR-32) in Butte County from Meridian Road to Hamilton Nord Cana Highway to facilitate critical drainage system maintenance.

CLOSURES TIME AND LOCATIONS:

  • 9 p.m. Friday, July 12 until 5 a.m. Monday, July 15
  • 9 p.m. Friday, July 26 until 5 a.m. Monday, July 29

DETOURS:

  • Westbound Detour: Traffic will be redirected along Bell Road.
  • Eastbound Detour: Traffic will be redirected along River Road to Meridian Road.

Expect delays and plan extra time for travel or consider alternate routes during these periods. The estimated delay time is expected to be about 20 minutes. Electronic message boards will be placed in advance to inform drivers of the closures. Traffic may be congested at the flagged detour intersections.

This $24.8 million project, scheduled to be completed by December, is designed to significantly improve safety, and reduce the number and severity of collisions along this stretch of SR-32. This includes enhancing safety at the Meridian Road intersection, which has had fatal and serious injury collisions above the state average. The project will improve the ride quality of the pavement, extend the lengths of deceleration lanes, and replace or repair culverts in poor condition. Additionally, improved lighting at key intersections will improve safety, further reducing the risk of collisions. Collectively, these improvements aim to provide safer travel for motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians alike.

Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11 Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert” and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews performing these improvements.

The department will issue updates on X @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict3. For real-time traffic information, click on Caltrans’ QuickMap or download the QuickMap app from the App Store or Google Play.
