FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Sacramento – Caltrans is alerting motorists that traffic-interfering work is scheduled to close the Airport Boulevard off-ramp from southbound Interstate 5 (I-5) and the southbound I-5 connector ramp to northbound State Route 99 (SR-99) for pavement repairs next week.

Caltrans urges motorists to leave at least 30 minutes earlier than normal to make their scheduled flights. Delays and extended travel times are expected from the signed detours.

Schedule:

  • 8 p.m. Sunday, May 19 through 8 p.m. Monday, May 20 for the Airport Boulevard off-ramp (Exit 528) closure
  • 9 p.m. Monday, May 20 through 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 21 for the northbound I-5 connector ramp to southbound SR-99 closure

Detours:

  • Airport Boulevard: Motorists can continue southbound on I-5 and exit at Metro Air Parkway (Exit 527), then make a left turn to get back onto northbound I-5 (Redding) and exit Airport Boulevard (Exit 528).
  • Southbound I-5 to northbound SR-99: Motorists can continue southbound on I-5 to the Del Paso Road off-ramp (Exit 525A) make a left turn onto Del Paso Road and use northbound I-5 (Redding) to northbound SR-99 Yuba City/Marysville (Exit 525B).

Construction work will include loud, intermittent noises from heavy construction equipment, including vehicle back-up warning alarms. Motorists should expect delays and plan for additional travel time for their commute.

This work is part of a $39 million project to add auxiliary lanes, ramp meters, and upgrade and/or install Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) elements on both directions of I-5 from 0.5 miles south of the Arena Blvd Overcrossing to 0.4 miles south of the Yolo County line. Construction started in July  2023 and is expected to be completed in July 2025.

Caltrans reminds motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert” and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews performing these improvements. The department will issue construction updates on @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict3.
