FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Roseville – Caltrans is alerting motorists about an upcoming two-week closure of the Douglas Tunnel on Interstate 80 (I-80) while crews perform electrical maintenance in Placer County.

Crews are scheduled to close the tunnel, also known as the Harry Crabb Tunnel, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, November 27 through Friday, December 8, excluding weekends.

Motorists looking to merge onto eastbound I-80 from Sunrise Boulevard will detour to the Douglas Boulevard on-ramp.

Sunrise Region Field Maintenance requested repairs earlier this year and a $390,000 emergency contract was awarded to Sierra Building Systems, Inc.

During the two weeks crews will work to repair and replace the fire alarm panel, communication system and replace heat detectors.

Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11 Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert” and slow down in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews performing these improvements.

The department will issue construction updates on @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict3. For real-time traffic, click on Caltrans’ QuickMap or download the QuickMap app from the App Store or Google Play.
