FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Butte County — Caltrans is alerting motorists that the California Highway Patrol will start monitoring one-way traffic control during roadwork on State Highway 191 south of Paradise starting Wednesday, Sept. 6.

Flaggers stationed at each end of the construction zone between Old Clark Road and Airport Road will be used along with a pilot vehicle during construction activity from approximately 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and on occasional Saturdays.

Crews will be off for the Labor Day holiday and traffic-interfering work is scheduled to resume on  Wednesday.

Motorists are reminded that pilot vehicles are to be followed at all times within the project zone for the safety of construction crews and travelers. Failure to follow pilot vehicles may result in a $220 citation with traffic fees doubled in construction zones.

The lane restrictions will allow crews to safely conduct hillside excavation work.

The schedule is subject to change based on weather, availability of equipment or materials or other unexpected events.

Teichert Construction of Sacramento is the contractor on this $12 million project that will widen the shoulders to 8 feet and stabilize wildfire-damaged slopes along the roadside. Completion is targeted for spring 2024.

Caltrans advises motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert.” The department will issue construction updates on Twitter @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict3. For real-time traffic, click on Caltrans’ QuickMap quickmap.dot.ca.gov/ or download the QuickMap app from the App Store or Google Play.
