FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Sacramento – Caltrans has scheduled an additional traffic split on westbound US 50 freeway lanes from just west of the 65th Street exit off ramp to just east of Stockton Boulevard exit off ramp.

The new westbound US 50 freeway lane split begins Friday, August 18 at 5 a.m.

Additional signs will direct motorists merging onto westbound Highway 50 to stay in the right two lanes to exit Stockton Boulevard off ramp, or to stay in the left two split lanes to continue on westbound U.S. 50 toward Downtown Sacramento, West Sacramento, or Davis. The existing traffic splits at Watt Avenue and 26th Street will remain in place.

  • Motorists on westbound US 50 must stay in right two lanes to exit Stockton Boulevard off ramp.

  • Motorists heading toward Downtown Sacramento, West Sacramento, or Davis shall stay in the left two lanes, and cannot exit Stockton Boulevard off ramp.

The ongoing construction work is for the $471 million U.S. Highway 50 Multimodal Corridor Enhancement and Rehabilitation (“Fix50”) project to expand 14 new HOV lane miles and rehabilitate 54 lane miles of pavement on US 50 from the US 50/I-5 interchange to the US 50/Watt Avenue interchange. The project also includes new sound walls, drainage improvements, lighting and Intelligent Transportation System elements. The project is funded by Senate Bill 1 (SB 1), the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, and the City of Sacramento’s Measure A Transportation Sales Tax Program managed by the Sacramento Transportation Authority (STA).

Motorists traveling through the work zone should expect lane restrictions and should be aware of commercial work vehicles traveling in and out of the area. The work zone speed limit has been reduced to 55 mph and the California Highway Patrol will be present for traffic enforcement. For more information on this project text “Fix50” to 41372 or visit www.Fix50.com. Caltrans encourages the public to follow construction updates on Twitter and Facebook @Fix50.

Crews are scheduled to work in the construction zone day and night, and the speed limit has been reduced for the safety of workers and motorists. The speed limit will be enforced 24/7. Caltrans advises motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert” – someone’s loved one is at work.

Work is scheduled to begin as listed but subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials, or construction-related issues. Use Caltrans’ Quick Map for current road conditions at www.quickmap.dot.ca.gov or download the free Quick Map app on the App Store or Google Play. Motorists also can call the California Highway Information Network automated phone service at 1-800-427-ROAD (7623).
