FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Sacramento – Caltrans has scheduled overnight lane closures for the American River Bridge construction project on State Highway 51/Capital City Freeway this week lasting into the early morning hours.

Nearby residents may hear loud construction noises including backup truck beeping and heavy equipment lifts during nightly demolition work. Motorists traveling on Highway 51 should expect delays and plan for additional travel time in both directions.

Caltrans suggests using Interstate 80 as an alternate route.

SCHEDULE AND LOCATIONS:

  • Tuesday, February 7 – Friday, February 10, nightly 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. Tree and vegetation clearing and wall demolition work on the east side of the Capital City Freeway.

The $50 million SB1 funded project will improve the overall commute on Business 80 (SR51). Work this week includes setting up k-rail, guardrail removal, begin demolition and installing a temporary sound wall, and tree removal. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.

ARC Construction Group from Evansville, Illinois is the prime contractor.

Motorists traveling through the work zone should expect lane restrictions and should be aware of commercial work vehicles traveling in and out of the area. The work zone speed limit has been reduced to 55 mph and the California Highway Patrol will be present for traffic enforcement.

Work is scheduled to begin as listed but subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/ or materials, and construction related issues. Use Caltrans’ Quick Map for current road conditions at quickmap.dot.ca.gov/ or download the free Quick Map app on the App Store or Google Play.
