FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SACRAMENTO – Caltrans is scheduling overnight lane closures for the U.S. Highway 50 Corridor Enhancement “Fix50” Project next week lasting into the early morning hours.

Nearby residents may hear loud construction noises including backup truck beeping and heavy equipment lifts during nightly demolition work of the concrete median barrier.

Motorists traveling on Highway 50 should expect delays and plan for additional travel time in both directions.

Caltrans suggests using State Route 51 (Capital City Freeway/ Business 80) and/or Interstate 80 as alternate routes.

SCHEDULE AND LOCATIONS:

  • Sunday, January 29 – Thursday, February 2: 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Median barrier demolition work on eastbound Highway 50 from Howe Avenue to Watt Avenue.

The ongoing work is part of a $460 million project to rehabilitate pavement on Highway 50 from the U.S. 50/Interstate 5 interchange to the U.S. 50/Watt Avenue interchange for a total of 14 new HOV lane miles and 54 lane miles of pavement rehabilitation. The project also includes new sound walls, drainage improvements, lighting and Intelligent Transportation System elements.

The project is funded by the State Highway Operation and Protection Program’s Roadway Rehabilitation Program, Solutions for Congested Corridors Program (SCCP), Senate Bill (SB 1), the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, and the City of Sacramento’s Measure A Transportation Sales Tax Program managed by the Sacramento Transportation Authority (STA).

Motorists traveling through the work zone should expect lane restrictions and should be aware of commercial work vehicles traveling in and out of the area. The work zone speed limit has been reduced to 55 mph and the California Highway Patrol will be present for traffic enforcement. For more information on this project text “Fix50” to 74121 or visit www.Fix50.com. Caltrans encourages the public to follow construction updates on Twitter and Facebook @Fix50.

Crews are scheduled to work in the construction zone day and night, and the speed limit has been reduced for the safety of workers and motorists. The speed limit will be enforced 24/7. Caltrans advises motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert” – someone’s loved one is at work.

Work is scheduled to begin as listed but subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/ or materials, and construction related issues.
