Sacramento — Caltrans and Norcal Paving, a joint venture of A. Teichert and Son Inc. and Granite Construction Companies, is scheduled to continue partial daytime and nighttime highway closures this weekend for the Interstate 5 Corridor Enhancement (FixSac5) Project.
Crews are scheduled for sign and drainage work and striping on northbound and southbound Interstate 5 (I-5) from the U.S. 50 interchange to J Street.
CLOSURE TIME AND LOCATIONS:
Northbound I-5 from 10 p.m. Friday, 6/17 through 5 a.m. Monday 6/20.
- Grated Line Drain work (GLD)
- P Street NB 5 on-ramp
- W Street NB 5 on-ramp
- NB I-5 to J Street off-ramp
- 15th Street on-ramp to Westbound 50
Southbound I-5 (outside lanes/shoulder)
From 10 p.m. Saturday 6/18 through 5 a.m. Monday, 6/20
- Overhead sign work
- Southbound I-5 #3 and #4 lanes from Richards Blvd Overcrossing to Capital Mall Overcrossing
- I St to SB 5 on-ramp
All lanes and ramps are scheduled to reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, June 20
DETOURS:
- From southbound I-5, North of the American River and Garden Highway take the westbound I-80 San Francisco (EXIT 522) to eastbound U.S. 50 Sacramento (EXIT 82).
Southbound Interstate 5 motorists north of the American River and Garden Highway are encouraged to use the westbound Interstate 80 Junction to westbound U.S. Highway 50 as an alternate route around the construction work zone. Motorists choosing to use I-5 during the partial closures should expect delays and plan for additional travel time.
Motorists should be aware of commercial work vehicles traveling in and out of the area.

Crews have built sound walls and completed the Casilada Pedestrian Overcrossing as part of the project and are now working to repair 67 lane miles of Interstate 5, build 23 miles of carpool lanes, and improve the existing electrical and drainage systems along this corridor. The project is expected to be completed by later this year.
This $370 million project includes $48.3 million in funding from Senate Bill (SB 1), the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017. SB 1 provides $5 billion in transportation funding annually split between the state and local agencies.
