Placer County – Caltrans is alerting motorists to expect travel delays and one-way traffic control on State Route 193 (SR-193) in Placer County for the next few weeks for the construction of two turnouts.
Beginning Tuesday, April 12, work will begin to construct a westbound turnout just east of Whittington Drive. Around Monday, April 18, construction crews are expected to begin working on an eastbound turnout located between Summer Star Way and Skyview Drive. Motorists should expect one-way traffic control and 20-minute travel delays weekdays between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Immediate work will include vegetation removal and grading of shoulder areas. Final paving work for the turnouts is expected to occur near the end of April. Weather or other unexpected events may prolong construction activities.
The $2.8 million project is also installing east- and westbound turnouts on State Route 20 in Nevada County just west of Conservation Road/Pine Needle Lane. Teichert Construction of Roseville is the prime contractor for the project with completion expected this summer.
The turnouts will provide designated areas where slow-moving vehicles may pull off the road to permit other motorists to safely pass. They also serve as traffic enforcement locations for the California Highway Patrol.
