Rio Vista Bridge Scheduled for Waterway Access Closure

RIO VISTA – Caltrans is alerting recreational boaters and commercial shipping that the Rio Vista Bridge on State Route 12 is scheduled for waterway closure to large vessels and sailboats needing bridge lifts next week. The bridge will remain in the down position.

The bridge remains safe for travel. A Caltrans contractor and structural engineers will install a new permanent backup drive system to help address the overall reliability of the drawbridge that includes electrical, counterweight balancing and bridge lift testing.

The bridge will remain open to motorists under one way construction with delays are expected.

SCHEDULE FOR MARINE TRAFFIC CLOSURE:

From 6 a.m. March 7 through 11:59 p.m. May 20.

In accordance with the 2018 Coast Guard Authorization Act (P.L. 115-288), Section 832 d.1.B, Caltrans, must notify the public by publishing notice of the temporary change to drawbridge operating schedule in a newspaper of general circulation in the place where the bridge is located.

A Public Notice is scheduled to appear in the Sacramento Bee newspaper on Tuesday, March 8, 2022. The U.S. Coast Guard will announce the temporary deviation in the Local Notice to Mariners and/or Broadcast Notice to Mariners.

Work is scheduled to begin as listed but subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/ or materials, and other construction related issues.
