Auburn – Caltrans is advising motorists of scheduled striping work on State Route 49 (SR-49) in Auburn from the Interstate 80 separation to Dry Creek Road.

Beginning Tuesday, July 6, construction crews will begin placing lane and arrow marker templates on all lanes and intersections of the 4.2-mile segment of SR-49. Following template placement, permanent highway striping work will begin. Striping is scheduled nightly for a two-week period with completion estimated around July 16.

  • 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday, July 6 through Friday, July 9
  • 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday, July 11 through Friday, July 16

Electrical crews also continue to work on replacing traffic signal timing loops with a camera sensor system that will better regulate signal timing along this section of the corridor. Traffic signal work is expected to continue through the end of July.

The work is part of a $42.4 million project to rehabilitate existing pavement and drainage, improve operational features and upgrade pedestrian and bicycle facilities from the Interstate 80/SR 49 interchange to Dry Creek Road in Auburn. Completion is expected this summer.

Weather or unexpected events may delay or prolong the work. Caltrans advises motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert.” The department will issue construction updates on Twitter @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict3.
