For Immediate Release

Placer County — Caltrans is alerting motorists to expect travel delays and intermittent lane reductions on east- and westbound Interstate 80 (I-80) for paving work.

Caltrans is currently grinding and repaving a section of I-80 between Penryn and Auburn in Placer County. Motorists should expect intermittent, nightly lane reductions and travel delays between 7 p.m. and 8 a.m. Sunday through Thursday through mid-July.

This section of highway was in need of repair due to asphalt deterioration. Caltrans is replacing the original roadway asphalt with a rubberized, open grade hot-mix asphalt that is designed to reduce noise generated from the heavy interstate traffic.

Caltrans reminds motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert” and slow in work zones for the safety of crews performing these improvements. The department will issue construction updates on Twitter @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict3.
