For Immediate Release

AUBURN – Caltrans is advising motorists of scheduled pavement grinding work on State Route 49 (SR-49) in Auburn from the Interstate 80 separation to Dry Creek Road.

Beginning Sunday night, construction crews will begin grinding off the top layer of asphalt across all lanes of the highway. Work is scheduled nightly between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday night through Saturday morning. Motorists should anticipate alternating lane closures in both the north- and southbound directions with one lane remaining open in each direction during work periods. Travel delays are expected.

Grinding work is scheduled for approximately one week, followed by traffic signal timing loop replacement. Motorists should expect a rougher roadway and uneven lanes at times before final paving work starts. Final paving work is anticipated to begin the week of June 13.

The work is part of a $42.4 million project to rehabilitate existing pavement and drainage, improve operational features and upgrade pedestrian and bicycle facilities from the Interstate 80/SR 49 interchange to Dry Creek Road in Auburn. Completion is expected this summer.

Weather or unexpected events may delay or prolong the work. Caltrans advises motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert.” The department will issue construction updates on Twitter @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict3.
