FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Sierra County – Caltrans is resuming construction today on the State Route 49 Yuba River Washouts project in Sierra County.

Throughout the duration of the project, motorists traveling SR-49 near Ladies Canyon and west of Good years Bar may expect 24/7 one-way traffic control via an automated traffic signal.

The $12.3 million project is permanently repairing the damaged river embankment at four locations along the Yuba River with the construction of sidehill viaducts. The viaducts will permanently restore the Yuba River washouts caused by erosion and will prevent erosion adjacent to the Yuba River from impacting SR-49 for the foreseeable future.

Construction on the project began in June 2020, with Caltrans constructing two viaducts at locations near the Mobile Ravine and Caltrans Downieville maintenance yard. The two remaining viaducts are being constructed on SR-49 near Ladies Canyon and between Good years Bar and the Rocky Rest Campground. Project completion is anticipated at the end of the year.

Weather or unexpected events may delay or prolong the work. The department will issue construction updates on Twitter @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict3. For real-time traffic, click on Caltrans’ QuickMap or download the QuickMap app from the App Store or Google Play.
