SACRAMENTO COUNTY – Caltrans is alerting motorists that the Steamboat Slough and Paintersville bridges on State Route 160 near Courtland will be temporarily closed for an extended period.

These bridges will not be closed at the same time. Additional construction is needed to maintain and keep the bridge operational. The bridge is scheduled for ongoing parts replacement work.

  • Steamboat Slough Bridge: Currently Open, March 4.
  • Paintersville Bridge: From March 8 through April 2

  • For Paintersville closure use Steamboat or Walnut Grove as an alternate route.

Advance signage has been placed at the bridge. Caltrans urges motorists to use this detour or use Interstate 5 in Sacramento County as an alternate route.

These delta bridges were originally constructed in the early 1920s and then reconstructed or refurbished in the early 1950s. Motorists should plan accordingly and expect additional travel time.

Current truck restrictions will apply. California legal trucks having a kingpin-to-rear-axle of more than 30 feet are not recommended on State Route 160.

Weather conditions could delay or cancel scheduled work. Caltrans advises motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert.” For motorists using the State Route 84 Real McCoy and SR-220 Ryer Island Ferries as a bridge detour, additional ferry information is located on our Caltrans Delta Ferries website.

Bay Area motorists can check 511SFBAY or follow Caltrans District 4 on Twitter. In the Sacramento region, Caltrans District 3 will issue construction updates on Twitter @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict3.
