FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

GLENN and COLUSA COUNTIES — Caltrans is alerting motorists of an upcoming long-term closure of the north- and southbound Interstate 5 Willows Safety Roadside Rest Areas (SRRA) in Glenn County for construction.

Crews are scheduled to close the Willows Rest Areas starting at 7 a.m. Monday, January 18, 2021. The closure will continue through December 31, 2021.

At the same time, Caltrans is reminding motorists that the closure of the neighboring north- and southbound Maxwell Rest Areas in Colusa County has been extended to March 31, 2021 for additional construction activity.

These rest areas are located off Interstate 5 between the cities of Orland in Glenn County and Williams in Colusa County.

During the closures, northbound I-5 motorists will be directed to use the Corning SRRA in Tehama County (about 25 miles north of Willows). Southbound motorists will be directed to the Dunnigan SRRA in Yolo County (about 34 miles south of Maxwell).

Caltrans is investing $13.8 million to update the wastewater and water systems at the Maxwell and Willow rest areas. TSI Engineering Inc. of North Highlands, Sacramento County, is the contractor for both projects.

Weather or unexpected events may delay or prolong the work. Caltrans advises motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert.” The department will issue construction updates on Twitter @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict3.
