FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sacramento County — The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is scheduled to close one lane on northbound and southbound State Route 99 from Grant Line Road Overcrossing to Dillard Road Overcrossing.
The daytime weekend closure was originally scheduled on Saturday, December 12, and Sunday, December 13, however, due to rain forecasted for December 13, Sunday’s daytime closure has been cancelled.
Instead crews are scheduled to begin paving operation on southbound SR-99 in the morning then switch to the northbound lanes in the late afternoon/ evening. The work is scheduled from 6:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m., Saturday, December 12.
Crews are also scheduled to perform shoulder work from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. Monday through Friday, and beginning 9:00 p.m. Friday until 6:00 a.m. Saturday. Crews will alternately close the #1 (left) and #2 (right) lanes on northbound and southbound SR-99.
One lane will remain open in each direction during the closures. Motorists should expect delays and use Interstate 5 or an alternate route.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) will be patrolling the project site ticketing motorists who are not adhering to the posted speed limit signs. The speed limit has been reduced to 45 MPH traveling northbound and southbound through the construction zone 24/7.
Crews are scheduled to work in the construction zone during the day and night, and the speed limit has been reduced for the safety of workers and motorists. The speed limit will be enforced 24/7. Caltrans advises motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert” – someone’s loved one is at work.
Crews are scheduled to perform various construction activities, including but not limited to bridge work, drilling and moving equipment.
The work is part of the SAC 99 Cosumnes River Bridge Replacement Project. The $166.9 million project includes $110 million in SB 1 funds and was awarded to Granite Construction. The project begins south of Dillard Road Overcrossing to south of Grant Line Road (south of the city of Elk Grove), and will replace the Cosumnes River bridges and the Cosumnes River Overflow bridges with two new bridge structures. The southbound McConnell underpass and the existing northbound McConnell Overhead structure will be replaced with a single McConnell Overhead structure for both northbound and southbound SR-99. The scope of work also includes improving the Dillard Road Overcrossing. The project is expected to be completed by 2024. For more information about the project visit here.
Caltrans advices motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert” – someone’s loved one is at work.
Work is scheduled to begin as listed but subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/ or materials, and construction related issues.
