FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Sacramento County — The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is scheduled to close the Paintersville Bridge on State Route 160 for bridge work.

The closure is scheduled from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday, July 31.

The work is part of the Paintersville and Mokelumne Seismic Retrofit Project. The bridge remains safe for travel and the closure is scheduled for the safety of workers, and when crews are retrofitting the structure and performing column and pile work. Motorists plan accordingly, expect delays and use alternate routes.

Suggested Alternate Routes:

  • Traveling Northbound:
    • Turn right at Walnut Grove Crossing Bridge and cross over the Sacramento River
    • Turn left onto the River Road
    • Continue north to SR-160 Junction

  • Traveling Southbound:
    • Continue south on River Road
    • Turn right at Walnut Grove Crossing Bridge and cross over the Sacramento River
    • Turn left onto southbound SR-160 Junction

Caltrans also suggests using Interstate 5 or the Steamboat Slough Bridges.

California legal trucks having a kingpin-to-rear-axle of more than 30 feet are not recommended on SR-160.

The project will strengthen the bridge columns and upgrade the Paintersville Bridge on SR-160 and the Mokelumne River Bridge on Interstate 5 at the San Joaquin/ Sacramento County line. The upgrades will help the bridges be more resistant to seismic activity.

Paintersville Bridge is one of the Delta Bridges that expands over the Sacramento River. It was originally constructed in the early 1920s then reconstructed/ refurbished in the early 1950s.

Work is scheduled to begin as listed but subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/ or materials, and construction related issues. Caltrans urges motorists to plan accordingly and to use the suggested detours. Current truck restrictions will apply.

The Paintersville Bridge is also scheduled to be closed for 60 days beginning Monday, August 3 through Thursday, October 1. For upcoming roadwork on the state’s highway system for the Sacramento region visit the District 3 Roadwork page.

Caltrans advices motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert” – someone’s loved one is at work.
