FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

KINGVALE – Interstate 80 motorists traveling eastbound and westbound between Kingvale and Soda Springs should expect intermittent lane closures and travel delays with slowed or stopped traffic.

Caltrans and Granite Constrction of Reno are repairing and fortifying the existing I-80 shoulders and embankments to minimize future maintenance repair and prevent further damage to the existing roadway caused by melting snow and snow plow activities. New concrete gutters are also being installed along the project route.

This is an $11.3 million restoration project to add resiliency to the interstate. Daytime construction work is currently occurring Monday through Thursday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Occasional overnight work may be required. Project completion is expected this September.

Caltrans and the contractor have deployed several highway message boards alerting motorists to slowed or stopped traffic ahead. Motorists should be advised that the speed limit is reduced to 55 mph in the construction zone. In addition, California Highway Patrol officers are stationed at the construction site to ensure motorists are slowing and driving safely in work zones.

Weather or unexpected events may delay or prolong the work. Caltrans advises motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert.” The department will issue construction updates on Twitter @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict3.
