SACRAMENTO – Caltrans is planning a series of Extended Weekend partial highway closures on Interstate 5 for the SAC 5 Corridor Enhancement Project.
The first 57-hour lane closure will involve four locations, causing delays for both northbound and southbound directions and closing various on and off-ramps. A contractor is scheduled for structural section work on the mainline, connectors and ramps at those locations.
SCHEDULE:
- From 8 p.m. Friday, May 29 through 5 a.m. Monday, June 1.
LOCATIONS:
- NB I-5 will be limited to one lane from Laguna Blvd. to Pocket Rd. (3.5 miles)
- SB I-5 will be limited to one lane from Pocket Road to Laguna Blvd.
- NB I-5 will be limited to two lanes from J Street to Richards Blvd. (1.5 miles)
- SB I-5 will be limited to two lanes from Richards Blvd to J Street

- WB Laguna Blvd On-Ramp to NB I-5
- NB I-5 Off-Ramp to Cosumnes Blvd
- EB Cosumnes Blvd On-Ramp to SB I-5
- EB Cosumnes Blvd On-Ramp to NB I-5
- WB Cosumnes Blvd On-Ramp to NB I-5
- L Street On-Ramp to NB I-5
- I Street On-Ramp to NB I-5
- NB I-5 Off-ramp to Richards Blvd
The ongoing work is part of the $370 million project to rehabilitate 67 lane miles of roadway and build 23 miles of carpool lanes, add additional sound walls and improve the existing electrical and drainage systems.
Motorists travelling through the work zone should expect ramp closures and lane restrictions and should be aware of commercial work vehicles travelling in and out of the area. The workzone speed limit has been reduced to 55 mph and the California Highway Patrol will be present for traffic enforcement.
