FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SACRAMENTO – Caltrans is planning a series of 55-hour partial highway closures on Interstate 5 for the SAC 5 Corridor Enhancement Project.

The first 55-hour lane closure will involve two locations, causing delays for both southbound and northbound directions. A contractor is scheduled for structural section work on the mainline, connectors and ramps at those locations.

SCHEDULE:

  • From 10 p.m. Friday, May 15 through 5 a.m. Monday, May 18.

LOCATIONS:

  • I-5 will  be limited to one lane in each direction from south of Cosumnes River Boulevard  to just south of Meadowview Road. (2.8 miles)
  • I-5 will be limited to two lanes in each direction from south of Richards Boulevard (West End Viaduct) to Garden Highway (.9 miles)

The ongoing work is part of the $370 million project to rehabilitate 67 lane miles of roadway and build 23 miles of carpool lanes, add additional sound walls and improve the existing electrical and drainage systems.

Motorists travelling through the work zone should expect ramp closures and lane restrictions and should be aware of commercial work vehicles travelling in and out of the area. The workzone speed limit has been reduced to 55 mph and the California Highway Patrol will be present for traffic enforcement. For more information on this project text 'FixSac5' to 58632.

Weather or unexpected events may delay or prolong the work. Caltrans advises motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert.” The department will issue construction updates on Twitter @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict3.
