Sacramento County — The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is scheduled to reopen the on-ramp from southbound Howe Avenue to westbound U.S. Highway 50 on Sunday, April 26 at 6:00 a.m.

The on-ramp was closed April 20 for roadway excavation, and originally scheduled to reopen April 25; however, the contractor needs more time to complete the work. Crews are widening and repaving the ramp.

The work is part of the SAC 50 Auxiliary Lane Project. The $4 million project will preserve and extend the pavement life, improve the overall ride quality and the nighttime visibility with new striping and added lighting. The addition of another lane to the ramp will help with traffic flow.

The closure is necessary for the safety of motorists and workers. Caltrans advices motorists to use an alternate route and “Be Work Zone Alert” – someone’s loved one is at work.

Suggested Alternate Route:

  • From southbound Howe Avenue continue to the eastbound U.S. Highway 50 South Lake Tahoe on-ramp. Take eastbound US-50 to Watt Avenue (Exit 11) and turn left at Watt Avenue. Stay in the far-right lane and re-enter westbound US-50.

Work is scheduled to begin as listed but subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/ or materials, and construction related issues.
