FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

COLUSA COUNTY— Caltrans is alerting motorists the north- and southbound Interstate 5 Maxwell Safety Roadside Rest Areas (SRRA) are scheduled to be closed next week until the fall for construction activity.

The rest areas, which are located between the cities of Maxwell and Williams, are scheduled to be closed to motorists beginning Friday, April 17. The closure is expected to continue through early fall. Portable roadside message boards will publicize the closure.

Motorists will be directed to use either the Willows rest area (about 29 miles north of the Maxwell SRRA) or the Dunnigan SRRA (about 34 miles south).

The closure will allow crews to perform $5.7 million in upgrades to the rest area’s water and wastewater systems. TSI Engineering Inc. of North Highlands, Sacramento County, is the contractor.

Weather or unexpected events may delay or prolong the work. Caltrans advises motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert.” The department will issue construction updates on Twitter @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict3.
