FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Sacramento – The northbound Interstate 5 off-ramp to Arena Boulevard is scheduled to be closed this weekend for emergency repair work.

A culvert that runs underneath the off-ramp was damaged in a wildfire last month and needs to be replaced. The ramp is scheduled to be closed from 10 p.m. Friday, November 15 until 5 a.m. Monday, November 18 in order to remove and replace the pipe and repave the off-ramp.

The work is part of a $2 million emergency contract to remove and replace approximately 9,200 linear feet of guardrail, remove and replace damaged culverts, replace damaged signs, markers and fencing, and landscaping repairs. The guardrail work was completed this week.

The October 27 wildfire burned along I-5 in the Natomas area, spreading from the shoulder into the center median, igniting oleanders and guardrail posts. It closed the freeway for several hours.

Weather or unexpected events may delay or prolong the work. Caltrans advises motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert.” The department will issue updates on Twitter @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict3.
