Meyers — Grinding and paving work for emergency repairs to a section of U.S. Highway 50 just east of Meyers is scheduled for all day on Thursday.

The deck and asphalt approaches on each end of the Sawmill Bridge over the Upper Truckee River need to be resurfaced and the guardrail on the 134.5-foot structure has to be replaced after a tanker truck was struck by another vehicle and exploded on September 7.

Grinding work on the west end of the bridge will get under way at 4 a.m. Thursday under one-way reversing traffic control. Motorists should expect delays of up to 30 minutes during peak commute traffic. Paving the new surface is expected to be complete by 8 p.m.

Work to replace the bridge deck surface is scheduled for next week.

Weather or unexpected events may delay or prolong the work. Caltrans advises motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert.” The department will issue updates on Twitter @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict3.
