Tahoe City — Caltrans has approved lane restrictions on State Highway 89 in Tahoe City this weekend for grinding and paving work.

Starting at 7 p.m. on Friday, motorists can expect one-way reversing traffic control on Highway 89 from south of Fairway Drive to just south of Twin Crags Road. The paving work is expected to be completed by noon Saturday. Motorists can expect delays of up to 20 minutes.

The work is part of a $35 million project to realign Highway 89 with a new bridge over the Truckee River, construct roundabouts on each end and improve drainage. The Federal Highway Administration's Central Federal Lands Highway Division is the lead agency for construction. The new bridge and two roundabouts are expected to be open to traffic by the end of October.

Weather or unexpected events may delay or prolong the work. Caltrans advises motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert.” The department will issue updates on Twitter @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict3.
