FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

South Lake Tahoe — Caltrans is alerting motorists of upcoming grinding and paving work that will cause traffic delays on U.S Highway 50 in South Lake Tahoe.

Starting at 5 a.m Monday, the “Y” intersection of Highway 50 and SR-89 will be reduced to one lane in each direction while the roadway is ground down and replaced with new asphalt. For the duration of the paving work, the contractor is permitted around the clock lane reductions, weather permitting. The intersection operation is expected to be completed within a week.

There will be additional grinding and paving work throughout the two-mile project limits throughout September. Highway 50 will be reduced to one lane in each direction during this work.

The work is part of the $56 million Highway 50 Y to Trout Creek project that is building new curbs, gutters, sidewalks and drainage systems to treat storm water runoff. It’s part of Caltrans’ ongoing commitment to the Lake Tahoe Environmental Improvement Program.

Weather or unexpected events may delay or prolong the work. Caltrans advises motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert.” The department will issue updates on Twitter @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict3.
