Yuba County — Motorists can expect mid-afternoon travel delays today on State Highway 20 in the Smartsville area as crews work to switch traffic to a new roadway alignment.

During the changeover, a contractor will conduct reversing one-way traffic control from approximately noon to 3 p.m. Motorists can expect up to 15 minutes delays.

The traffic shift will move motorists onto a newly constructed 1.1-mile section of highway. The work is part of a $28.5 million safety project to straighten and flatten curves, widen shoulders, construct a new bridge, repave the roadway and improve drainage in the Smartsville area.

Weather or unexpected events may delay or prolong the work. Caltrans advises motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert.” The department will issue construction updates on Twitter @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict3.
