Sacramento– Caltrans is advising motorists to expect continued nighttime and daytime roadwork along parts of Interstate 5 from north of Elk Grove to the U.S. Highway 50 interchange and to south of the American River.
For safety to motorists and workers, long-term, around-the-clock closure of the eastbound Pocket Road on-ramp to southbound I-5 is needed. The detour will be to use northbound I-5 to Florin Road and back onto southbound I-5.
Beginning Wednesday, November 20 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. a contractor will begin pile work expected to last about 30 days. This is the beginning work needed for the structure and sound wall construction.
Residents will hear loud construction sounds from the worksite, including commercial truck back-up beeping and heavy jack hammer type noise. Construction is scheduled in the daytime to avoid disturbing residents during the evening hours.
The work is part of a $370 million project to rehabilitate 67 lane miles of roadway and build 23 miles of carpool lanes, add additional sound walls and improve the existing electrical and drainage elements. Senate Bill 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, is providing $48.3 million in funding.
Caltrans urges motorists to plan ahead for additional travel time. The California Highway Patrol will be at the work sites for traffic enforcement.
